Dental Assistants Recognition Week (DARW) 2026

March 1-7, 2026, All locations – American Institute campuses joined the nation in honoring Dental Assistants Recognition Week (DARW) again this year. The annual celebration was “designated by the American Dental Assistants Association as the perfect time to acknowledge and recognize the versatile, multi-talented member”1 of dental office teams.

The theme for 2026 was ‘Superheroes behind the Smiles’ and showcased the important role dental assistants play in patient care and enhancing that experience. Several graduates from the program and one student were featured sharing their perspectives on this role throughout the week on social media.

“I choose to be a dental assistant to help people. Being an assistant is a very rewarding experience and career to have. I enjoy making my patients more comfortable and smile better. The most rewarding thing is a thank you!” shared Kaye’Ana M., a 2025 graduate from the Cherry Hill, NJ campus.

Jonah C., a student in the Somerset, NJ campus reflected on what makes this a rewarding career choice for him: “At the end of the day, I feel like I personally made a difference in the life of the patients and in the practice itself. from providing self-care instructions, to getting to know the patient during small talk, making them feel comfortable and looking out for any signs of discomfort to help maintain that comfortability. I also enjoy helping the Dentist as well, as their day can be quite hectic some days when fully booked. Having the patients stay calm will help make the day feel very smooth and peaceful.”Jonah C., a student in the Somerset, NJ campus reflected on what makes this a rewarding career choice for him: “At the end of the day, I feel like I personally made a difference in the life of the patients and in the practice itself. from providing self-care instructions, to getting to know the patient during small talk, making them feel comfortable and looking out for any signs of discomfort to help maintain that comfortability. Stories like these reflect what we see in our American Institute classrooms and labs: students motivated by purpose and a desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

From celebrating with t-shirts for the ‘Dental Assisting Squad’ to cupcakes to lunchbags to water bottles to sharing a meal, each campus honored their Dental Assisting #AIFamily in their own way during the celebration, but all joined in recognizing the value this role brings to modern-day dental health and wellness.

Tim Rogers, Toms River & Cherry Hill Campus President, said student appreciation is a great way to recognize these heroes in dental offices and what they do.
“Patients rely on these important team members to help them feel comfortable and at ease in a place that many dread going – a great dental assistant can make the dental visit a pleasure instead of a chore,” Tim said.

To all our American Institute Dental Assisting students, alumni, and staff/faculty, we say: Thank You! We applaud your dedication and admire your passion for helping others. You truly are superheroes to us!
