American Institute’s Patient Care Technician program offers a comprehensive curriculum that prepares students to pursue a career in healthcare with a variety of patient care skills, including phlebotomy, electrocardiogram (ECG) procedures, and nurse’s aide.
This program is offered only at the West Hartford, CT location.
THE PROGRAM
This theory and laboratory-based program integrates lectures, hands-on activities, instructor-led training, and a clinical externship creating an understanding of medical terminology, patient care methods and techniques, and infection control measures. Students receive training in phlebotomy, electrocardiogram (ECG) procedures, and additional ECG skills for monitoring cardiac health. As part of their education, students will complete a clinical externship in a healthcare facility. Students will receive course preparation to sit for the Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) examination. Graduates must meet eligibility requirements to sit for the examination.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- Upon successful completion of this program graduates will be able to:
Perform and interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs) accurately and effectively. - Perform the essential skills and knowledge required to assist nurses in patient care settings, including vital signs monitoring and patient hygiene.
- Execute the proper techniques for venipuncture and blood specimen collection, ensuring patient safety and sample integrity.
- Apply a variety of patient care techniques, encompassing wound care management, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), patient hygiene procedures, vital signs monitoring, and effective patient positioning strategies.
- Perform hands-on experience in a clinical setting through a nurse’s aid externship, applying classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.
