Dental Assisting Students Volunteer at Give Kids a Smile
February 21, 2015, West Hartford, CT – More than 10 years ago the American Dental Association began Give Kids A Smile, focused on raising awareness around oral hygiene primarily among children from low-income families.
West Hartford Dental Assisting students and staff happily volunteered at this year’s local event, enabling students to assist dentists on procedures like extractions, composite restoration, amalgam restorations and set of radiographs, among other dental proceedings. According to the ADA, each year approximately 350,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events from the Give Kids A Smile effort, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more annual volunteers.
West Hartford Campus President, Kim Colbert, shared, “I’m grateful to have such a great group of students and faculty that have a passion for helping others and are able to take their newly acquired dental skills into our community.”
