MARGATE, FL ¬– Aug. 11, 2011 ¬– Katrena Newton of American Institute in Margate, Fla., has received top honors from the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges (FAPSC), a statewide organization representing more than 200 career-oriented schools.
Newton, an instructor in cosmetology, was named Faculty Member of the Year for outstanding work at a non-degree granting, accredited career college. The award, which is given out to one recipient each year, was presented at the FAPSC Annual Conference in August.
“Katrena is an educator in every sense of the word. Her passion and enthusiasm engages the students, inspiring them to do the same in their future professions. One student summarized her abilities best: ‘She makes me want to be here everyday,’ ” said Kathy Mizereck, executive director of FAPSC.
Fourteen annual awards were selected by a panel and handed out during the FAPSC Annual Conference in South Florida attended by more than 460 administrators and faculty members.
The Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges (FAPSC) works on behalf of all Florida’s degree granting and non-degree granting career schools and colleges. Licensed by the state, these schools educate and prepare more than 379,000 students each year for employment in more than 200 occupational fields.
