May 5, 2014, Toms River, NJ– American Institute Toms River celebrated “Cinco de Mayo” with a special “Drinko de Mayo” celebration, in which they raised funds for the nearby after school program at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a life changing preventive program that ultimately reduces the need for possible future juvenile justice and school disciplinary intervention, through nurturing children, and empowering them to succeed. Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs a child with a role model, starting a one-to-one relationship built on trust and friendship that can blossom into a future of unlimited potential.Research found that after 18 months of spending time with their Bigs, the Little Brothers and Little Sisters, compared to those children not in the program, were 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to skip school.
The organization aims to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, and American Institute is proud to have a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters. All funds that were raised at our “Drinko de Mayo” event was used to purchase juice boxes for the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters Ocean County’s after school program, and the event proved to be huge success.
