Skin Care Careers

Getting career training in skin care is a good start for anyone who wants to become a skin care technician. There are many different industries a skin care technician can go into. The five industries with the highest levels of employment for skin care technicians are personal care services, offices of physicians, amusement and recreation industries, traveler accommodations, and health stores. The industry that you choose as a skin care technician may affect the average wage potential. For example, those working in offices of physicians make on average around $9,600 more each year than those working in the personal care services industry.*

With skin care training from American Institute, students gain the knowledge they need to become an entry-level skin care technician. Students complete coursework in skin care treatments such as facials, waxing and make-up artistry. Those who work as skin care technicians perform facials and other skin care treatments. Dermabrasion, chemical peels, hair removal, skin analysis, and body treatments are just a few of the treatments that skin care technicians can perform.

A skin care technician often falls under the umbrella of cosmetology for the purposes of state licensing. All states mandate training requirements and licensure for cosmetologists and estheticians. Even once an individual gets their state licensing there is often a continuing education requirement in order to maintain a license.

Employment of skincare specialists is projected to grow 40 percent from 2012 to 2022, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.**

Skin care technicians generally work in clean, pleasant environments with good lighting and ventilation. Skin care provides people with treatments that cleanse and beautify the skin. If you are interested in a skin care career, call American Institute at 888-387-5260.
